Update to UW-Madison Zoom Account Security Settings

Posted: 2025-08-01 12:58:29   Expiration: 2025-12-31 12:58:29

On August 3, 2025, a new login security setting will be enabled for all UW-Madison Zoom accounts.

What Is Changing?
Currently, you can stay signed into Zoom indefinitely. After the update, you will be prompted to re-authenticate or log in using your NetID credentials once a week. This applies whether you are using the Zoom website, the desktop app, or the mobile app (except for Android devices).

You will not be logged out if you are in the middle of a meeting. If you're in a meeting when the 7-day period expires, you will be asked to log in again after the meeting ends.

Why Is This Happening?
This security update has a few important benefits:

  • Improved Security: It helps protect your account from unauthorized access if you leave your device logged in and unattended.
  • Correct Group Access: It ensures your account is properly assigned to the correct user group (Standard, Secure, UHS, Extension), which is essential for accessing the right features.
  • Correct Add-on Access: It ensures that your account is allocated requested add-on licenses, if applicable.

This update will enhance the security of your Zoom account and ensure a seamless experience with all available features. If you have any questions, please contact the DoIT Help Desk .
