Office 365 (Android) - Configure the native email/calendar app for Android

Best Effort Support Only

This document contains instructions on using a non-Microsoft email client, such as Apple Mail or Thunderbird. Microsoft does not recommend these clients for use with Office 365, and there are often significant limitations in client functionality as a result.

Because of this, the DoIT Help Desk is only able to offer best effort support for these clients, and certain issues may require the use of a Microsoft client in order to be resolved. For more information on Office 365 client support, please see: Office 365 - Which clients/protocols will be supported?.

IMPORTANT: Microsoft just released a version of Outlook which will work with UW-Madison's implementation of Office 365. This application is fully supported by Microsoft. Office 365 team recommends that all users install/use this application instead of the native Android mail/calendaring clients.
Because Android devices from different carriers and manufacturers have differing user interfaces and features, we are unable to provide detailed step-by-step instructions. The basic information below, combined with instructions from your carrier, should get you connected. It is important that customers use the native Android email application that comes with the phone to configure Office 365. Other email applications have been reported as having issues configuring Office 365 accounts.

Important: We strongly recommend that, when it comes to your calendar, you only use your mobile device for viewing, not accepting or declining meetings. Use Outlook or Outlook Web App (OWA) to accept or decline meetings.

UW-Madison contracts with two wireless carriers (Verizon Wireless and US Cellular) to provide the university staff with discounted rates on cell service. For further details on these services, review the following information: DoIT Mobile Service (Cellular).
