SIS/Building Your Schedule of Classes - Adding Honors Designation

This document outlines how to add an honors designation to a course offering.

How to Add Honors Designations to Appropriate Sections

You can identify the type of honors (if any) for a particular class association number. Be sure to coordinate with instructors and academic leadership in your department so that the honors designations are appropriately assigned to (or removed) from classes. These values term roll, so be sure to review (and update, as needed) honors designations that rolled forward from the previous like term. As a reminder, a class association can only be changed if the Term Update Switch is ‘On’ and the class has zero enrollment. 

Step 1

From Home, select: Curric & Enroll Rep WorkCenter, Adjust Class Associations. The "Find" page displays.

Tip: Menu navigation: > Curriculum Management > Schedule of Classes > Adjust Class Associations

Step 2 

Use the "Find" page to locate the desired course. Search by Term and Subject Area to view a list of all scheduled courses, or search by Term, Subject Area, and Catalog Nbr to find a specific course. Select the course you want to view, and the "Adjust Class Associations" page will display. 

Note: Associations of ‘9999’ do not display. For course offerings using 9999 associations, review and update honors on the associations for the enrollment components, i.e., the non-9999 associations. See also: SIS/Building Your Schedule of Classes - Class Associations 

Step 3

Select the "Class Components" page tab.

Step 4 

Select the look-up icon next to the "Requirement Designation" field. You can leave the search fields blank, and select the "Look Up" button. This will display your options for Honors designations.

Step 5

Select the appropriate Honors designation for the class section. Add the appropriate Honors designation to any enrollment sections. To remove honors, delete the value entered in the "Requirement Designation" field.

Step 6

Select "Save."

Honors sections are defined using the Requirement Designation

HIA - Honors Optional: Course is open to both honors and non-honors students. Asks students during enrollment if they want an optional honors component (Yes or No). Student must consult the instructor regarding expectations for earning Honors credit in the course.

HON - Honors Only Courses: Reserved for students in a formal Honors Program. The enrollment system will automatically assign Honors. 

HOP - Accelerated Honors: Course is open to both honors and non-honors students. Recommended for students planning an Honors Program. The enrollment system will automatically assign honors.
