Performance Management Frequently Asked Questions

This KB addresses frequently asked questions regarding performance management in Workday.

Why is the Set Review Content (Step 1) of the Midpoint Only Half Complete?

This is because the supervisor did not fully complete the set content task in Workday by the December 31, 2025, deadline. Only the content that was completed in the set content business process will be pulled through to the Midpoint.

When can the supervisor see an employee self evaluation?

The supervisor will see the employees responses to their self-evaluation during the Complete Manager Evaluation step of the evaluation.

Technically, supervisors can view the employee's response as soon as the employee saves anything to their self-evaluation. They would do this by going into the employee's evaluation.  But in most cases, the supervisor will review the self-evaluation when the employee completes Complete Self Evaluation and the manager is assigned step Complete Manager Evaluation

What does the supervisor see in the self evaluation?

In the Complete Manager Evaluation step, supervisors can review the employee’s self-ratings for each responsibility as well as their progress toward established goals. It will look like the screenshot below:

What if an employee or the supervisor is on an approved leave?

We encourage the supervisor and the employee to complete the evaluation by the deadline. This may mean that the supervisor and employee need to make a plan to ensure that the tasks get done by the deadline.

If meeting the deadline is not possible due to a leave, the supervisor or employee should reach out to their HRBP to discuss it further.

Why does the task show the same start and end date?

This is due to the way Workday is configured. The templates are set up to use the same date for both the start and end of the task. We understand this may appear confusing, but it is functioning as designed.

If the date is incorrect, the task must be canceled and restarted—dates cannot be edited once the task is launched.

What happens if a task is launched and the manager of the supervisory organization is vacant?

If the sup org is vacant at the time of task launch, the task will automatically route to the next-level supervisor in the supervisory organization hierarchy (superior org manager).

If an employee completes probation close to a regular performance cycle launch (e.g., completes probation in November before a January Midpoint), will the manager also be expected to complete the regular Midpoint evaluation?

Yes. Workday does not distinguish between employees who just completed a probationary evaluation and those who are in the regular performance cycle. As a result, the manager will still receive the Midpoint task and is expected to complete it.

At SMPH we will work with the service center to cancel midpoints if an employee has ended their probationary period within the last 90 days.  E.g. for midpoint evaluations, employees who completed their probationary period between October 1 and December 31, 2025, will not need to have a midpoint evaluation completed.

How can I tell if what the employees secondary job is?

The secondary job is indicated by a + on job profile.

How can a supervisor share the content in the evaluation in step 3 without submitting to the employee?

A supervisor can print a copy of their evaluation and share it with the employee without hitting submit. This is recommended because after the supervisor hits submit in the Complete Manager Evaluation step they are no longer able to make any edits to the evaluation.

In the evaluation the supervisor should be able to click the print icon, shown in the screenshot below and print a hard copy or save as a PDF to be shared with the employee.
