University Committee Meeting Minutes 2026-03-30
Minutes for March 30, 2026

Chair Annie Jones called the meeting to order at 1:01 pm.
Chief Brent Plisch discussed Flock cameras on campus. The data is owned by contract by UW-Madison. Agencies within the state of Wisconsin can search for data without approval by UW-Madison. UW-Madison is able to see requests in real time and can perform audits of the data.
The data sharing part of Flock is what has been useful to UWPD. Flock only allows sharing of data if you host Flock cameras. He indicated that they are working to remove access to UWPD Flock data from agencies who have agreements with ICE. Chief Plisch would be open to doing more frequent audits of data requests of Flock data. He also mentioned that it was important to remember and acknowledge the victims of crimes and the work of investigators and how they could be affected by any decisions regarding Flock.
The University Committee provided some feedback on the draft policy on student evaluation of teaching and learning to Ralph Grunewald, chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Student Evaluation of Teaching and Nick Curtis, Director of Assessment. They will incorporate this feedback into the final draft of the policy that goes for a vote in May.
The minutes from March 23, 2026, meeting were approved.The University Committee will hold a town hall on Monday, April 13 from 4-5 via Zoom. Discussion will not be confined to any particular issues.
Mathieu motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to convene in closed session pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(a)(c) and (f) to discuss waivers and committee appointments at 2:01 pm. One tenure clock extension was approved.
Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to reconvene in open session at 2:35 pm.
The University Committee discussed next week’s guests.
Jones adjourned the meeting at 2:54 pm.
