University Committee Meeting Minutes 2026-05-04

Minutes for May 4, 2026

UC members present: Bernard-Donals, Chui, de Leon, Jones, Kendall, Mathieu

Others present: Greg Bump, Becky Jacobs, Michelle Felber, Derek Johnson, Sabine Martin,

Jennifer Noyes, Julie Scharm

Chair Jones called the meeting to order at 1:30 pm.

Chair Jones welcomed Derek Johnson, who starts as a member of the University Committee on June 1.

Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to convene in closed session pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(a)(c) and (f) to discuss waivers and a grievance at 1:30 pm. One tenure clock extension and one faculty to academic staff appointment conversion were approved.

Bernard-Donals motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to reconvene in open session at 1:49 pm.

The minutes for April 27, 2026, were approved by consent.

Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to convene in closed session pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(a)(c) and (f) to discuss waivers and a grievance at 1:14 pm. Three tenure clock extensions were approved.

Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to reconvene in open session at 1:36 pm.

Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin thanked the University Committee for creating a constructive space to work together. The Chancellor and University Committee reflected on their time together and some of the challenges in the way some things are structured at UW-Madison.

Jones adjourned the meeting at 3:04 pm.
