University Committee Meeting Minutes 2026-07-13

Minutes for July 13, 2026

UC members present: Chui, de Leon, Haynes, Johnson, Kendall

Others present: Greg Bump, Lesley Fisher, Sabine Martin, Mallory Musolf, Jennifer Noyes, Julie Scharm, Tom Zinnen

Chair Kendall called the meeting to order at 1:00 pm.

Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to convene in closed session pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(a)(c) and (f) to discuss waivers, committee appointments and grievances at 1:02 pm. Two leave of absences, three tenure clock extensions, and one temporary assignment were approved.

Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to reconvene in open session at 2:19 pm.

The minutes for June 15, 2026, were approved with one change by consent.

The University Committee discussed the proposal to no longer take questions in the Faculty Senate for those attending virtually via chat and instead ask participants to speak in the room. The University Committee was supportive of this idea as long as individual needs were accommodated.

Johnson moved to approve the University Committee operating procedures. The motion was seconded and approved.

The University Committee discussed areas of interest for priorities they would like to work on during the upcoming year.

Interim Chancellor Eric Wilcots shared leadership updates including the start of the new athletic director as well as Dean Gillaspy stepping down and the appointment of interim dean of CALS, Troy Runge. The search for the Dean of the School of Nursing will begin in late August.

In regards to the campus cooling situation, they expect to reach the pipe this week and be able to assess the damage.

In regards to the proposed OMB changes, there are numerous units around campus working to put together comments from the institution. The comments will include examples of where things could go awry if changes are implemented. UW-Madison has also made the congressional delegation aware of the campus’ concerns.

Kendall adjourned the meeting at 4:04 pm.
