Others present: Greg Bump, Michelle Felber, Lesley Fisher, Allison Golden, Becky Jacobs,

Chair Kendall called the meeting to order at 1:00 pm.
De Leon motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to convene in closed session pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(a)(c) and (f) to discuss grievances at 1:00 pm.
Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to reconvene in open session at 1:18 pm.
Michelle Schwarze, chair, University Curriculum Committee, reported that they reviewed 813 course proposals last year. They also reviewed core general education requirements (CGER) mandated by Act 15 and moved Comm B requirements to the catalog level rather than individual section designation. DAPIR modeled the new CGER requirements using last year’s graduates and found about 15% would not have fulfilled the new CGER requirements mostly due to courses that used to have multiple general education designations and can no longer have more than one designation under CGER. The committee also finished their course learning outcomes project with over 3,000 proposals with updated learning objectives. This year they plan to continue work on a 0 credit policy.
Stephanie Budge, co-chair, LGBTQ+ Affairs Committee, indicated they had focused on belonging during the last year and held a spring social. They hosted a conversation regarding changes to UHS services regarding group counseling with some other FPP Chapter 6 committees participating. They are continuing to work on making sure students are supported and building community across campus.
De Leon motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to convene in closed session pursuant to Wis. Stats. 19.85(1)(a)(c) and (f) to discuss grievances at 1:48 pm.
Chui motioned, and it was seconded and approved, to reconvene in open session at 2:01 pm.
The minutes for September 28, 2026, were approved by consent.
Derek Johnson provided an update on targeted outreach being planned by the Working Group on HASS (Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences). Michelle Chui provided an update on HIB. A group of stakeholders met and decided to first create a map of the current HIB process.
Dean Nita Ahuja, School of Medicine and Public Health, provided an introduction and discussed her strategic plan. Priority areas include academic excellence, student and trainee experience; innovation and discovery through research; patient care innovation; community engagement and social impact.
Eric Wilcots, Interim Chancellor, discussed AI, which is one of the UC’s priority areas. Interim Chancellor Wilcots provided a history starting with the formation of CDIS six years ago followed by a building and then a new college. He indicated that UW-Madison is engaging with AI in lots of areas and not just in the promotion of AI. A couple examples include a humanities project regarding ethics and morality and conversations about data centers with local communities.
Kendall adjourned the meeting at 3:13 pm.
