Parking permit application process for eligible students

Overview of the process to determine student eligibility to apply for a base lot or UW Accessible parking, including the application process to apply if eligibility is confirmed. This document is for graduate students without a university employment appointment, and undergraduate students.

Application process for annual base lot and accessible parking permits

  1. Research.

  2. Submit a student parking pre-approval form.

    • If you believe you meet the eligibility requirements, complete and submit the student parking permit pre-approval form.
    • If you are a student with a valid, state-issued disabled permit or placard, you can submit the student parking permit pre-approval form, or skip the following steps and apply for a UW-Accessible permit at a Transportation Services office location with the required documentation.

  3. Apply for the permit.

    • Option 1: Apply online

      • Once approved to apply for parking, complete an application in the Permit Application System (PAS). You will need a campus NetID and password to log in to PAS. Refer to the KnowledgeBase article How to submit an application for a parking permit
      • Students may apply for a base lot permit in Lot 34, 41, 46, 59, 67, 75, 76, or 83.
      • If you are applying for a UW Accessible permit, select UNIVERSITY CAMPUS ACCESSIBLE from the list of permit options in PAS.
      • If you encounter difficulties in PAS, please contact the student parking coordinator at studentparking@fpm.wisc.edu.

    • Option 2: Apply and purchase in person (UW Accessible permits only)

      • Apply for and purchase a UW Accessible permit at a Transportation Services office location with the required documentation.

  4. Make temporary commuting arrangements (online applicants only). If you don't already have a parking assignment, a temporary commuting plan will be necessary while your application is being processed. 

  5. Watch your email for a parking assignment (online applicants only).

    • Permit assignments are emailed to the email address on file in the eBusiness purchasing portal.
    • Permit offers are sent by email approximately every two weeks. You will only be contacted if/when an offer can be made to you. Your application will remain on waiting lists for all the lots you selected in your application until you receive an offer for a parking assignment. Waiting list positions are determined by priorities assigned by unit transportation coordinators.
    • You can check the status of your application in the Permit Application System (PAS) or contact customer service for more information.

  6. Purchase your permit in the eBusiness purchasing portal (online applicants only).

  7. Get your permit (online applicants only).

    • Your purchase receipt will contain instructions on how to get your permit.
    • Depending on the time of year, permits may be mailed to the address listed in your eBusiness account. Or, you may be required to pick up your permit in person at a Transportation Services office. Your receipt will tell you what to do.

Application process for temporary accessible and moped accessible parking permits

Temporary accessible permits and accessible moped permits are available for in-person purchases at a Transportation Services office location with proof of a valid, state-issued disabled permit (or physician's note for temporary permits).
