New Minimum Zoom Version Requirement Effective December 4, 2024

Effective December 4, 2024, the minimum version requirement for the Zoom computer and mobile application will be updated from 6.0.10 to 6.2.0. All UW-Madison Zoom accounts and individuals attending UW-Madison hosted Zoom meetings will be required to use version 6.2.0 or later.
Updating the minimum client version is important to ensure all UW-Madison Zoom accounts and their attendees are using the latest privacy/security enhancements and features. View Zoom's security bulletin for the latest information.
Latest Zoom application versions
The minimum version requirements listed below will go into effect on December 4, 2024. Please note, this list is subject to change to address new zero-day security vulnerabilities.
- Windows - 6.2.0
- Mac - 6.2.0
- VDI Client - 6.1.0 (latest version available)
- Linux - 6.2.0
- iOS - 6.2.0
- Android - 6.2.0
Prepare for this requirement
- Check your current Zoom computer or mobile application version.
- Update the Zoom application.
- If your computer or mobile device is managed by your IT department, you may not have the update option. Contact your IT department for further support.
- Enable automatic updates for your Zoom application to receive the latest version.
- If you do not see this setting in your desktop application, you may need to update or reinstall the application to restore the option.
- Prepare your meeting attendees for this change by including a link to the Zoom compatibility test room in your meeting description.
Workaround
If you are unable to update your Zoom desktop or mobile application, you can use the web version. The web version will not be impacted.
- UW-Madison hosts: Start your meeting using the web application https://uwmadison.zoom.us.
- Attendees: Join using a browser (ex: Safari, Firefox, Chrome).
As Zoom releases newer versions of its computer and mobile applications, the minimum client version will be updated again to include the latest privacy and security enhancements. Future updates will be shared in the Zoom KnowledgeBase news section and an announcement will be sent to the campus IT community and Academic Technology.
