Locating a Biochemistry Asset Number
Biochemistry IT uses the Biochemistry Asset Number to identify devices in its inventory system and throughout the university's various systems. The asset number can be found a number of different ways with the following options being the most common.
Asset Tag
The Biochemistry Asset Tag contains the asset number and is typically in the following locations:
- Desktop
- Front
- Top
- Laptop
- Bottom
The tag will look like one of the following two options:

macOS
The asset number is part of the computer name and can be located in multiple locations within macOS. Once you have the computer name you can figure out the asset number.
- Option 1: On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings ('System Preferences' on older versions of the OS), click General in the sidebar, then click About on the right. (You may need to scroll down.) Name is the computer name.
- Option 2: On the Login Window, click the time. The computer name will be displayed in the menu bar in the upper right. Other system information is available this way so you may need to click a few times to see the computer name.
The full computer name will be displayed (BIOCXX-00000X). The number section (displayed as 00000 in the example) is the asset number.
Windows
The asset number is part of the computer name and can be located in multiple locations within Windows. Once you have the device name you can figure out the asset number.
- Option 1: Open Settings > System > About to get the Device name
- Option 2: Open System Information and find the System Name
The full computer name will be displayed (BIOCXX-00000X). The number section (displayed as 00000 in the example) is the asset number.
