About LEG

This document provides a general outline of the mission, vision, and values of the Learning Engineering Group.

The Learning Engineering Group at the Division of Continuing Studies is a group dedicated to the creation of high quality noncredit opportunities for learners of all ages.

We do this by:

  • Providing pedagogic consultation services;
  • Creating training on best practices in:
    • online pedagogy and technology;
    • unique needs and approaches for adult learners;
  • Building noncredit courses in Canvas and edX;
  • Advising on innovative technological tools that positively impact adult learners' experiences;
  • Recording studio-quality audio and video for educational courses and programs;
  • Editing, transcribing, and captioning accessible media;
  • Utilizing best practices regarding learning, Universal Design, and accessibility;
  • Integrating interactivity in media assets;
  • Collaborating with campus partners on how to best meet their noncredit, lifelong learner's needs;
  • Reviewing existing curricula and advising on updates and changes;
  • Reviewing existing student feedback and incorporating that feedback into the design of the course.

In alignment with the Wisconsin Idea1, our vision is to aid noncredit partners in meeting the needs of their learners outside the boundaries of the traditional post-secondary classroom.

Our values are:

  • Collaboration
  • Transparent communication
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Accessible and inclusive teaching, learning, and working environments

1 The idea that education should influence people's lives beyond the boundaries of the classroom.
