Document Capture
Rich Image Processing Options
With support for Pixel (ISIS)-driven devices and a wider variety of Kofax image processing filters, CaptureNow offers increased options for improving the quality of images and for gathering data from the image itself, such as Barcode Recognition, Noise Removal, and Scaling. When you install a Pixel driver and create your scanning Capture Profile, the CaptureNow interface is able to expose an array of filters for image processing, including but not limited to Deskew, Border Removal, Color Removal, Crop, and Patchcode Detection.
Barcodes
You can use barcode recognition to detect barcodes on an image and convert them to their ASCII equivalents. The detection recognizes a barcode oriented on a page in any direction. During a barcode recognition operation, Perceptive Content searches the image for possible barcodes.
if a potential barcode is found, Perceptive Content examines it for specific characteristics, such as the type of the barcode, the height of the barcode, the width of the narrowest barcode element, the length of the barcode (number of characters encoded), the size ratio of the narrowest element compared to the largest element, the font size (18 point is recommended), and the text format. If Perceptive Content determines that the code has these characteristics, the code is deemed recognizable.
There are three scenarios for which you can use barcodes within a Capture Profile:
- separate documents,
- separate groups/batches of documents
- use barcodes as index key values
For example, you can use a barcode to separate large batches of documents. Using a barcode as a separator sheet further simplifies the task of scanning and organizing documents by creating a new batch when the barcode is detected by the scanner. Each time a barcode is detected, a new batch is created for the documents that are scanned after it. All newly scanned documents are placed in the new batch until scanning finishes or another barcode is detected.
A barcode grouping trigger categorizes documents based on one or more barcodes. You can specify a barcode filter that a barcode must match before a new batch is started. Enabling barcode grouping requires that you set one or more index keys for each barcode.
You can also use barcodes to automatically index your documents. You can use parts of barcodes as the index keys of a document. For example, a barcode that contains the value 165049802980201l can be broken into three pieces, and each piece can be a key. You can designate the first five digits as a key, the middle ten digits as a key, and the last digit as a key, so that once all data in the barcode has been read, the document will have 3 index keys.
Patchcodes
A patchcode is used to create a new batch when it is detected by the scanner. Patchcodes are similar to barcodes in that they are used to further simplify the task of scanning and organizing documents. Kofax scanning hardware and software have been designed to detect and recognize six separate patchcode patterns, while Pixel enabled devices recognize three patterns. If a potential patchcode is found, it is examined for specific characteristics to determine if it is recognizable. Patchcodes can be downloaded from the Perceptive Software support portal. Please contact your Perceptive Software representative if you need assistance in downloading them.
Some of the patchcode characteristics examined are: the narrow bars must be 0.08 inch in height, the wide bars must be 0.20 inch in height, the entire patchcode must be 0.80 inch in height and the entire patchcode should be at least 2.0 inches in width.
Each time a patchcode is detected, a new batch is created for the documents that are scanned after it. All newly scanned documents are placed in the new batch until scanning finishes or another patchcode is detected. Any one or more of the six recognizable patchcodes can be used to create a new batch.
Integrated and Automated Indexing
Enhancements to Single and Package mode scanning provide you with rich options to scan documents into Perceptive Content automatically, without Batch processing. Should you receive a letter in the mail and want to quickly add it to a customer record, for example, you can open that customer's record in the host application, use a Single mode scan profile, get that customers index values (using LearnMode Applet), and link the file right away. The QA process happens when you run the profile, and the results open in tmageNow Viewer for you to view and save. The Single mode option requires that you choose a predefined Applet. Additionally, you can automate indexing by lifting data directly off the scanned image with Capture Profile settings such as Barcode Recognition.
Virtual ReScan (VRS)
Virtua|ReScan (VRS) is an image enhancement tool intended to provide the best possible image quality across the widest range of document types. VRS works hand-in-hand with your scanning application and scanner to ensure that every scanned image meets your quality standards. Through instant detection of poor image quality, VRS performs automatic image enhancements. VRS provides a set of interactive adjustment controls to eliminate guesswork with easy, real-time image correction.
