Course Evaluation
Course evaluations are the most common tool for gathering feedback on your course. Course evaluation surveys help instructors collect students’ perceptions of their learning experiences and attitudes toward learning. Surveys can be used to offer insight into course design and inform course, instructional, and curricular improvements.
Benefits of Digital Course Evaluation Surveys
The UW–Madison's Student Learning Assessment group has identified some benefits of using a digital course evaluation survey, such as the HelioCampus Assessment and Credentialing tool (formerly AEFIS), to gather student feedback. Digital learning assessment tools, including digital course evaluation surveys, allow academic departments and programs to more efficiently and effectively assess student learning at the course and program levels.
Based on research, digital tools support more robust, sustainable, and evidence-based data collection and reporting. Additional benefits include:
- Accessible and flexible
- Quality of questions; best practices
- Efficiency – significant time and money savings vs. paper-based reporting
- Faster results and more in-depth responses
- Robust reporting options
- Ability to import/export data with other campus systems
