L&S Teaching Report

This document contains information and instructions for the Teaching Report in L&S. This page was last updated in January 2024 with information for academic year 2024-25.

L&S Teaching Report

The Teaching Report is designed to document the allocation of Faculty and renewable Academic Staff teaching in a department or program. Teaching & Learning Administration (TLA) requests this report each January for the upcoming academic year. TLA may also request an updated Teaching Report while evaluating short-term staffing requests.

The Teaching Report is an excel spreadsheet with three tabs:

  • Teaching Loads: All Faculty and renewable Academic Staff who have teaching commitments to the department/program. Notes about non-standard appointments (e.g., Faculty with joint appointments, or part-time Academic Staff) are listed on this page).
  • Teaching Assignments: Planned teaching assignments for the academic year.
  • Course Releases: Planned course releases. For the purpose of this report, the term 'course release' includes any reduction to the instructor's standard teaching load, including extramural funding, sabbaticals/leaves, or course releases for administrative assignments.
Past copies of the Teaching Report are available in departmental Box folders (folder name = “48-#### Teaching Report”).

Annual Exercise for the Teaching Report:

  • L&S Teaching & Learning Administration will email each department/program with a draft Teaching Report in January.
  • Departments/programs will review the report for accuracy and update as needed; detailed instructions are in the panel below.
  • Departments/programs will email their Teaching Reports for AY 2024-25 to teach.learn@ls.wisc.edu by February 7, 2024.
  • L&S Teaching & Learning Administration will upload the report to Box (folder name = “48-#### Teaching Report”).
  • Cathy Yu from L&S TLA will follow up with questions if needed.

Instructions for Completing the Teaching Report

Important: Complete the list of instructor names on the 'Teaching Loads' page first. This list populates the 'Instructor' drop downs on the 'Teaching Assignments' and 'Course Releases' pages. Once the instructor list is complete, you may want to copy it into the instructor columns on the ‘Teaching Assignments’ and ‘Course Releases’ tables for easier data entry.
