ECMS - What is WebNow?
WebNow is a browser-based version of the Perceptive Content (formerly ImageNow) software, enabling access to your documents even while away from the office. As a Java-based application, WebNow updates each time a user visits the site, ensuring an up-to-date and secure connection. WebNow does not have all the features of the full Perceptive Content desktop client, such as scanning documents, linking documents, and access to ImageNow Printers.
NOTE: WebNow is currently available for use, but will only be supported by the vendor until 2020. Additionally, WebNow will not run on most modern browsers as many browsers have dropped support for Java. See ECMS - The Future of WebNow for more information.
What is WebNow?
WebNow is a browser-based solution for use with Perceptive Content imaging software. WebNow works with Perceptive Content to instantly deliver to your browser secure, digital versions of paper or other electronic documents associated with your workflow activities or application software transactions.
The figure below shows that WebNow requires an Perceptive Content Server and at least one Perceptive Content Client. WebNow accesses data from the Perceptive Content Server through a web application server. Users can access this data from their Internet browser, by specifying a WebNow URL of https://imaging.wisc.edu/webnow/.
WebNow requires Perceptive Content Server, Client, and a web application server.
After accessing the web site, the user must enter an Perceptive Content login ID and password. The user authentication is defined on the Perceptive Content Management Console. When the login ID and password are accepted, the user can access all of the Perceptive Content data through WebNow. Because the user accesses WebNow using an Internet browser, the only software requirement the client computer needs is Sun's Java Runtime Environment (IRE). The Perceptive Content Sewer, Perceptive Content Client, and WebNow service can reside on separate computers.
When you launch WebNow, it opens in your Internet browser. You can run WebNow on UNIX, Apple Macintosh, and Microsoft Windows, and integrate it easily with the business application to retrieve Perceptive Content software documents in context with core daily work.
With an Internet connection to WebNow, document access is worldwide and SSL encryption is supported. You have the ability to add annotations and notes to documents, and send email containing hyperlinks to documents and other images. Multiple search options are also available to conduct advanced searches on documents in the Perceptive Content repository.
