Course proposals deadlines
The deadlines below assume:
- All cross-listed departments have approved the course in Lumen by the deadline
- The syllabus submitted includes all syllabus components required by campus.
- Requested revisions are addressed within a day or two
- There is no additional review needed for Communication A/B, Quantitative Reasoning A/B, or Ethnic Studies. Reviewing for these designations will take additional time.
New courses and scheduling
- If you plan schedule a new course for the upcoming term, follow the Course Change deadlines, which more closely align with the curricular build.
To be effective Spring 2027
Please note: governance committees do not meet over the summer to approve proposals
- Recommended submission date: April 24, 2026
- Final deadline for a course change: August 25, 2026
- Final deadline for a new course: September 29, 2026
To be effective Summer 2027
- Recommended submission date: October 2, 2026
- Final deadline for a course change: October 27, 2026
- Final deadline for a new course: November 10, 2026
To be effective Fall 2027
- Recommended submission date: November 10, 2026
- Final deadline for a course change: January 12, 2027
- Final deadline for a new course: February 9, 2027
"Recommended submission date" builds in time for required revisions, other required department or committee approvals, and time to address questions. New courses are likely to be available to schedule by the Initial Call deadline.
Final deadline: Does not build in any extra time for revisions, or other committee/department required approvals, such as Comm A/B, Quantitative Reasoning A/B, or ethnic studies. New courses approved after this deadline may not be available when enrollment begins.
Undergraduate Program Changes - proposal deadlines
Changes to be effective Fall 2026 (inclusive of "Annual"- type updates):
- Deadline: Friday, December 12, 2025
- We recommend substantive edits be submitted in mid-November (before Thanksgiving).
- Please see the L&S Annual Fall Guide Revisions page for information about the tools and the process for submitting changes and updates to undergraduate programs.
Changes to be effective Spring 2026 ('mid-cycle' updates):
- Deadline: Friday, September 12, 2025
- Mid-cycle changes are limited to correction of errors or clarifications that will have a substantial effect on students’ abilities to complete requirements.
Graduate program/Capstone Certificate changes: proposal deadlines
Changes to be effective Fall 2026 (inclusive of "Annual"- type updates):
- Governed Content Deadline: Substantial edits are due December 12, 2025. Small curricular or admissions edits can be submitted until January 9, 2026.
- Non-governed Graduate content: January 30, 2026.
Changes to be effective Spring 2026 ("mid-cycle" updates):
- Deadline: Friday, September 12, 2025
- Mid-cycle changes are limited to correction of errors that will have a substantial effect on students’ abilities to complete requirements.
