L&S Curricular Deadlines for Course and Program Changes

Please consult the information below for deadlines to change courses, add courses or change program requirements.

Changes to Courses, Adding New courses

Departments must use Lumen Courses to submit course changes and new course proposals, and deadline information is below. All course proposals must be accompanied by a syllabus that includes all syllabus components required by campus.

NOTE:
  • Course changes deadlines are set by campus.
  • New courses can be added at any time (there is no ‘deadline’). Follow the change deadlines below if you’d like it to be available by the time the schedule is released.
Recommended Course Proposal Submission timeline: Information
Submitting course proposals by these guidelines allows time for:
  • addressing requests for revisions, including revisions to the syllabus if it does not include all the required components (see syllabus requirements)
  • other department or committees review (cross-listed courses or courses with general education designations, for example).
  • addressing any questions asked by the L&S Curriculum Committee during their review

Recommended Course Proposal Submission DATES

Fall 2019:
We are past deadlines for course changes. New courses may be still be proposed (see NOTE above).

Spring 2020: By mid-April, 2019 (this is early because committees don’t meet over the summer)

Summer 2020: By early October, 2019.

Fall 2020: By the of end winter break, 2020.
Absolute Course Proposal Deadlines: Information
We recommend planning to meet recommended deadlines above, and not the absolute deadlines, for the following reasons:
  • During administrative review, small revisions or issues are often identified, included missing required syllabus components. All issues must be resolved by the deadline to the right or are likely to miss deadlines
  • Proposals are not received by L&S until all cross-listing departments have approved the course proposal (therefore all departments must have approved by deadlines to the right).
  • These deadlines assume no additional committees need to review the course (e.g. if the course has a general education designation, it will need additional time)
  • These deadlines presume the course is approved at the first possible L&S Curriculum Committee. If the committee defers approval to the next meeting so the department can answer question or clarify material, the course will miss deadlines.
