When does the L&S Curriculum Committee meet? What are the deadlines? Whom do I contact about agenda items?

Meeting times, deadlines, and contacts for the L&S Curriculum Committee

The L&S Curriculum Committee generally meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month during Fall and Spring terms.  Most meetings are held from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m., in the Dean's Conference Room (101 South Hall). Occasionally, the L&S Curriculum Committee will meet jointly with the CALS Curriculum Committee to review proposals or issues related to programs jointly administered by the two colleges.

Meeting Dates & Deadlines for the L&S Curriculum Committee in the 2016-2017 Academic Year

Deadlines: The deadline for curricular proposals (and for all the necessary related department approvals) is eight days prior to the L&S Curriculum Committee meeting. If your proposal requires other departments' approvals, submit it several weeks prior to the deadline. This will ensure those departments have enough time to review proposals using their approved governance process, and are able to indicate their approval prior to the deadline.

Special Note about Course Proposal Deadlines: After L&S approval, course proposals must be reviewed by the University Curriculum Committee, and potentially other bodies (other schools and colleges, or the general education committee).  The online course proposal system will automatically forward the proposal to the necessarily committees. The Office of Academic Planning and Institutional Research posts posts their deadlines here.

Course changes are only implemented prior to the release of the class schedule. The deadlines for course change deadlines are set by the University Curriculum Committee, and are incorporated into the table below. If a course change proposal misses a deadline, it will be implemented for the next possible semester. New courses can be added at any time. However, submitting new course proposals by the course change deadline is recommended if you would like the course available for scheduling prior to the schedule publication.

Contact

Professor Mike Wagner (School Journalism and Mass Communication) chairs the committee in 2017-2018. Kimbrin Cornelius and Joni Brown work with the chair to develop meeting agendas and review course proposals. In most cases, Kimbrin is the appropriate contact. After course proposals have been submitted online, and the department chair has indicated departmental approval, the proposal will automatically be sent to the L&S Curriculum Committee contacts.  Questions about proposals can be sent to the general Curriculum Committee email account, curriculum@ls.wisc.edu.
