Upcoming maintenance to the Student Information System (SIS) will impact Canvas.
UW-Madison’s SIS, the software system that manages curricular and student-record data, will undergo a major upgrade from Friday, June 28 at 4:00PM to Monday, July 8 at 8:00AM.
Students, instructors, advisors, and departmental staff will not be able to access SIS during this period and there will be no transactions occurring within the SIS/Student Center/Faculty Center. That means there will be no grading, changes to enrollment (including new classes and drops/swaps), transcripts or enrollment verifications available within SIS or SIS-dependent systems. Because Canvas is a SIS-dependent system, there will be impacts to Canvas during the upgrade window. Specifically:
- Changes to course rosters in Canvas, such as adds and drops, will not occur during the upgrade window. This applies to both student and instructor enrollments. Course rosters in Canvas will reflect class enrollments as of Friday, June 28 until the end of the SIS upgrade window on Monday, July 8 at 8:00AM.
- Changes to Canvas courses, such as course additions or deletions and section additions or deletions, will not occur during the upgrade window.
- No final grades (from Canvas or otherwise) will be able to be submitted to Faculty Center during the SIS upgrade window. Canvas tools such as Gradebook, Assignments, Modules, Quizzes, and Discussions will all function as they normally do. This means that quizzes and assignments can be delivered to students as normal.
