Canvas's new Rich Content Editor (RCE) opt-in course feature will be updated on November 21st and affects course storage quotas moving forward.

In this update, newly recorded or uploaded media via the new RCE will be stored in the course Files folder. While this change allows instructors to reuse or repurpose the media in their courses, this file will count against the course storage quota. This is a change from the current RCE, where video files that are recorded and uploaded are not placed in course Files and do not count against a course's storage quota.

More information on this upcoming change is available from Instructure's release notes for November 21st, and for additional information on Canvas course storage, please see our KB document here.

Also, please note that the new RCE is still an opt-in feature that instructors can use for their individual courses and is not on by default in all courses. For more information on how to enable a feature option in your course, please see this Canvas Community document from Instructure. A guide for using the new RCE is also available here.
