This page describes support for CDIS student organizations in Morgridge Hall.
Student Organizations
The School of Computer, Data, and Information Science (CDIS) is home to a thriving community of student organizations. Learn more about the individual student organizations on the CDIS website.
Morgridge Hall supports student organizations through leadership opportunities, events, and dedicated spaces to help enrich the student experience.
Requesting a Space in Morgridge Hall
Space in the Commons (floor B-2) is reservable for students organizations who meet the following requirements:
- Associated with a department within Morgridge Hall (Computer Science, iSchool, Statistics, BMI)
- A Majority of members taking courses within a department within Morgridge Hall
- A registered RSO or emerging (in the process of becoming an RSO)
With so many student clubs across CDIS - there is not capacity for other unaffiliated student organizations to host meetings at this time.
To reserve a room, please reach out to the Commons at least a week in advance at Commons@cdis.wisc.edu. Your email should be returned in 2 business days.
Be sure to include:
- The name of your student organization
- we will include this in the title to be able to let students know where to find you
- Your anticipated attendance numbers
- The date, start time and end time of your meeting (or reoccurring meetings)
- The type of meeting
- This will help us determine the best fit - if there is food, if it is a social, if anyone is allowed to attend, or if it is limited to members only
We will do your best to accommodate your event, but cannot guarantee space.
Other Event Expectations
- Make a Sign to let people know where you are! We have sign holders available for outside your door and can assist with printing.
- Start and end on time - there may be other events immediately following yours
- Clean Up and Reset the furniture after your event
- Bring your own HDMI or cable adapters, the Commons has limited supplies if you are using AV
Commons Spaces Available
The following Commons classrooms are available to CDIS student organizations for free after 5:30 p.m. All reservations must be made through the Morgridge Hall
Student Org Lounge
The mission of the Student Org Lounge is to facilitate an engaged and empowered student organization ecosystem: providing space for student organization leaders to collaborate and work, for student orgs to host meetings or events, and to provide secure spaces for storing materials, equipment, or organizational documents.
This may include informal student work spaces (similar to the Undergraduate Projects Lab space in the current Computer Science Building) and formal meeting spaces that can be reserved for club activities.
Student organizations may also book additional rooms within the second-floor Commons to host programs, meet-ups, or events. CIS-affiliated student organizations can reserve these spaces at no cost.
To reserve a room, please reach out to the Commons at Commons@cdis.wisc.edu
Student organizations are encouraged to make the lounge their own, while also being respectful of shared use. This includes hanging relevant (and appropriate) materials on the walls and showcasing student work in the lounge windows.
The Commons team offers support for promoting student org events and engagements, including:
- Printing fliers and posters
- Advertising on digital announcement screens throughout Morgridge Hall
- Inclusion in the Commons Newsletter
For assistance with communication or inclusion in the Commons Newsletter, please email your event information and images to Commons@cdis.wisc.edu
