2026 CAI Commons Mini Grant Information

This year for the first time, the Commons in Morgridge Hall will sponsor Student Org Mini Grants for College of Computing & Artificial Intelligence, college-wide initiatives. Aimed at bringing the broader College together, these initiatives should think beyond the confines of individual departments. It is ok to limit your population to just undergrads, just grad students, or other groups - as long as it includes that whole population with in the College.

They can be social - think game nights or other activities - focus on student support like study jams - or be focused on Career Exploration. These are just ideas, we are excited to see what you will come up with.

Student Org Mini Grants for CAI-wide initiatives Up to $1000 - but also smaller in the $100-$500 range.

The application will ask you:

  • Information about your org
  • Targeted populations
  • Goals for your event
  • Event description
  • Possible dates and times
  • And a detailed budget request.

There are 3 Deadlines throughout the year that will be checked on a rolling basis.

  • Oct 16
  • Dec 11
  • Feb 19

Student Organization Lounge

Student Org Lounge

The mission of the Student Org Lounge is to facilitate an engaged and empowered student organization ecosystem: providing space for student organization leaders to collaborate and work, for student orgs to host meetings or events, and to provide secure spaces for storing materials, equipment, or organizational documents.

This may include informal student work spaces (similar to the Undergraduate Projects Lab space in the current Computer Science Building) and formal meeting spaces that can be reserved for club activities.

Student organizations may also book additional rooms within the second-floor Commons to host programs, meet-ups, or events. CIS-affiliated student organizations can reserve these spaces at no cost.

To reserve a room, please reach out to the Commons at commons@cai.wisc.edu

Student organizations are encouraged to make the lounge their own, while also being respectful of shared use. This includes hanging relevant (and appropriate) materials on the walls and showcasing student work in the lounge windows.

The Commons team offers support for promoting student org events and engagements, including:

  • Printing fliers and posters
  • Inclusion in the Commons Newsletter

For assistance with communication or inclusion in the Commons Newsletter, please email your event information and images to commons@cai.wisc.edu

To advertise using the Digital Displays in Morgridge Hall, please submit the form on the building Marketing & Communications

Applying for Space in the Student Org Lounge

To apply for space and storage within the Student Org Lounge, student organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Be officially registered as a student organization

  • A majority of members must be enrolled in CAI courses

  • Have at least one faculty advisor from CAI

Applications will open each spring semester. Student organization leadership will receive keycard access to the lounge upon approval.
