The Rebecca M. Blank Student Commons in Morgridge Hall
The Rebecca M. Blank Student Commons is located on floor 2 of Morgridge Hall. It was designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among students from across campus. A key part of the student ecosystem for the School of Computer, Data, and Information Science, the Commons supports students with:
- A full service Information & Reference Desk
- A collection of relevant print and digital resources for the study of Computer, Data, and Information Science
- Technology check-out
- Space for collaboration, study, and fun
- Opportunities for Community Engagement
Mission
The mission of the Commons and its responsive staff is to foster a vibrant, engaged, and inclusive community within Morgridge Hall through informed programming, student and faculty engagement, value-driven community partnerships, and access to information, resources, and technology.
Through our services, spaces, and opportunities, we welcome the Morgridge Hall community to make their mark on this Blank Space to make it their own.
Using the commons
Using the Commons Space
The general commons space is a hub of information, resources, and student activity for Morgridge Hall. It is first and foremost in service of students - undergraduate and graduate.
Members of the public not affiliated with the University of Wisconsin are welcome to use the general Commons space for research and study during regular daytime and evening hours.
Organizations outside of the Morgridge Hall community wishing to table or host events within the Commons must contact the Commons Director. The RMB Commons may not be able to accommodate every request for information tables, activities, or giveaways and will set priorities based on the commons vision (outlined below)
The general Commons may have a variety of passive activities for students to participate in with the goals of supporting student culture, relieving student stress, or inviting creativity and self expression. Students are invited to bring their ideas for engagements for the rest of the student body to the Commons team to help implement them.
Digital display screens in the Commons may be used to:
- Promote the commons library collection and digital resources available to students
- Celebrate and recognize students, faculty, and staff through recent highlight slides
- Share what is happening in the commons and commons rooms throughout the day
- Recognize donors, partners, and other marketing materials from the CDIS communications team
- Promote or inform of upcoming events
Users of CDIS Rebecca M. Blank commons are expected to follow the University of Wisconsin-Madison Library Code of Conduct. https://policy.wisc.edu/library/UW-1024
