What makes UW Health’s Pediatrics Residency Program unique?
PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy residents are quickly integrated into our practice model which ensures both competence and confidence while providing remarkable care for pediatric patients. Preceptors are highly engaged and invested in teaching while frequently utilizing the layered learning model to support training for all levels of learners. Additionally, residents are exposed to a variety of unique pediatric conditions and multiple levels of systems integration ensuring that they are equipped with the tools and knowledge to successfully provide and/or implement pediatric pharmacy services within any health care system.
What goals do you have for residents who complete your residency program?
Our goal for residents completing the PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy program is to embrace the legacy of UW Health residency programs and strive to inspire future pediatric pharmacy leaders wherever their career takes them. We create shared accountability with the resident for achievement of all ASHP Accreditation Standards for PGY2 program competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents will also be fully prepared to obtain board certification in pediatric pharmacy following completion of our program.
What is your best advice for prospective residency candidates?
It can be intimidating to review the variety and number of programs available to you. Take the opportunity to seek guidance and learn from residents currently in your programs of interest. Reflect on your personal and professional goals no matter how unreachable they may seem and be mindful you have worked incredibly hard and are more than ready for the next steps in your pharmacy journey. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the process!
