Cisco VoIP - Moving a phone

The process for moving a Cisco VoIP phone for UW-Madison

Cisco phones are programmed on the telephone, not the jack. Therefore, if you have an employee that is changing offices. That employee can take their phone with them to their new office. The phone will have all their numbers and settings. However, you must make sure that the new jack is enabled for VoIP. If the jack is not enabled for VoIP, the phone may not function properly, including not being able to send proper location information for 911 calls. Your local IT staff may be able to help you determine if a jack is enabled for VoIP through AANTS. For more information on AANTS, see  AANTS - How Do I Become an AANTS (Authorized Agent Network Tool Suite) Admin

If you would like DoIT to update the jacks for you, your authorized user (VoIP Line Requests - Authorized Users ) can send a request to DoIT Network Applications by filling out a change form: Cisco VoIP Request Forms. If are moving more than 5 lines, please use the VoIP Large Moves & Changes Spreadsheet found on that same page. If your office move is being assisted by DoIT Departmental Support, they will assist with moving the phones and updating the jacks.

Departments are responsible for physically moving the phones between locations.
