General Reports
Secretary of the Academic Staff Heather Daniels met with Michael Bernard-Donals regarding two issues.  One issue, mentioned by the Provost a couple weeks ago, is an orientation for instructional academic staff.  The other issue is whether there is a need for neutral parties/advocates for academic staff during an investigation and/or appeals process.  Heather reported that she has some data to gather on both issues.

The Ad Hoc Committee on Research Scientist Titles kicked off last week.  Megan Spurgeon and Shane Hubbard will co-chair the committee.  The first step for the committee will be to connect with Vice Chancellor Marsha Mailick regarding work that has been done on this issue in her office.

Heather reported that the Hostile and Intimidating Behavior liaisons were trained last week.  The website including the list of liaisons is set to be launched at the beginning of October.

Deputy Secretary of the Academic Staff Jake Smith attended the Board of Regents Committee regarding hiring practices of chancellors and the UW System President.  The committee plans to act very quickly with recommendations going to the Board of Regents in October.  They are looking at streamlining processes and recruiting candidates outside academia.

Guest: Wayne Guthrie, Chief Human Resources Officer
Don Schutt has retired.  There are no plans to replace Don’s position due to the unique skills it required.  Because of the retirement, they are taking time to restructure the entire office.  They are looking at realigning around delivery of service.  They will set up collaboration teams that will include someone in recruitment, workforce relations and compensation and titling.  Each team will be assigned a group of departments/units to work with.  The realignment will be cost-neutral.

In regards to the Title and Total Compensation study, OHR (Office of Human Resources) are planning to redirect resources to focus only on the study.  In addition, presentations regarding the study will be done by lots of different people within OHR.
