WisconsinX Course Launch Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

This document answers FAQs for course teams preparing to launch a WisconsinX course or program.

What is a course About page?

A course About page is a public-facing webpage on edX’s website providing key information about the course, such as the logistics (i.e. course length, price, start/end dates, etc.) and the content (i.e. course description, learning outcomes, etc.).

Each WisconsinX course has a course About page that is launched prior to the start date of the first course offering. When the page goes live, it markets the course and opens enrollment.

Visit the WisconsinX catalog to view About pages for our current course offerings.

What is a program About page?

If a series of courses is being launched and will be offered as a program, then a program About page is created in addition to the individual course About pages. A program About page is a public-facing webpage on edX’s website providing key information about the program, including the type of program (Professional Certificate or MicroMasters), a program overview, a list of courses in the program, and program learning outcomes.

A program About page goes live after all individual course About pages are live.

Visit the WisconsinX catalog to view About pages for our current program offerings.

How do About pages get developed?

During the course development phase, the WisconsinX Service Team will work with you on finalizing the information needed for the About page(s). No later than 30 days prior to the start date of your first course offering, the WisconsinX Service Team will publish the About page.

What is the difference between the audit and verified enrollment tracks?

edX courses have two enrollment tracks available to learners: audit (free) and verified (paid). Please see What are the differences between audit (free) and verified (paid) courses? for more information about the differences between the two tracks.

How do I price my WisconsinX course for the verified track?

Most WisconsinX courses are priced in the range of $50-$350, depending on a number of factors, including the course level (introductory, intermediate, or advanced), the level of instructor support, and whether the course is part of a program or a standalone course.

What is the difference between course length and course run?

Course length answers the question, “How much time does it take to complete this course from start to finish?”. The course length does not change from offering to offering unless the curriculum is redesigned.

For example: This is a 6-week course requiring 2-4 hours of study per week.

Course run answers the question, “When does this specific offering start and end?”. Every time a course is offered it receives a new run with updated start and end dates.

For example: The current run starts on September 1, 2025 and ends August 31, 2026. The next run starts on September 1, 2026 and ends on August 31, 2027.

How long is a typical WisconsinX course run?

WisconsinX courses are self-paced and typically operate on a 12-month continuous cycle, keeping the course run open for a full calendar year. At the end of the 12 months, the specific run closes and a new 12-month run starts immediately after.

While the 12-month continuous run is our standard framework, select alternative schedules are also available in consultation with the WisconsinX Service Team and the Learning Engineering Team.

Once my WisconsinX course is live, how does a new run get created?

Near the halfway point of your current course run, the WisconsinX Service Team will contact you regarding scheduling the next run.

Where can I view enrollment data for my WisconsinX course or program?

WisconsinX course and program data can be found in the WisconsinX (edX) Enrollments and Demographics Tableau reports.
