Moving Applications in Bulk Using Classify
Moving multiple applications to a new bin using Classify
To move multiple applications at once in bulk to another bin, you will need to use a tool in the Reader called Classify.
Classify is a powerful feature that should be used with caution, and for this reason is an ability reserved only for Graduate Coordinators. Classify has the potential to move all of your applications to any bin in your Review Workflow, including the Deny (Department, G90) bin, which could erroneously deny a bunch of applicants all at once. That said, it is also a very useful tool that has some safeguards in place to make sure you know exactly to which bins the applications are headed before you send them there. So, if used carefully and deliberately, it can save you and your program a lot of time.
Quick How-To (Detailed Steps Below)
- Navigate to Classify in the Reader
- Using the "Set Pending Bin" drop down, select to which bin you wish to send applications
- Select the applications you wish to move to the bin selected in Step 2
- Select the "Update" button, which will set the pending bin for all of the selected applications
- Select those same applications again (assuming you want to move all of them)
- Select the "Commit Pending" button
- Type in the word COMMIT (all uppercase) and press the "OK" button to move all applicants to the new bin
Pro Tip: Use Bin Filter and Program View on the Right Side
- Bin Filter: When you enter the Classify section, typically it defaults to showing applications in "All Bins." If you know you are moving applications from one specific bin, you can filter down to just that one bin's applications. In the screenshot below, the bin filter is still set to All Bins, which can be changed to any other bin.
- Program View: When you enter the Classify section, typically it defaults to the "Default - See All" which means you will be viewing a list of all of your applications across all of your programs. You can select a specific view for a specific program view to just see applications to that specific program. In the example in the screenshot below, the Sports Leadership MS program view has been selected.

Detailed Steps
In the example provided below, we show you how to bulk move a group of applications to the Faculty/Committee Review Bin 1.
Step 1: Navigate to Classify in the Reader
In the left-side menu of tabs, select Classify, as shown in screenshot below.

Step 2: Set the pending bin and select the applicants you wish to move to that bin
Set the pending bin to Faculty/Committee Review Bin 1 using the drop down menu on the right side, highlighted in the screenshot below. Then select the applications you wish to move to that bin. Each application you click on will be highlighted in dark blue, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 3: Select Update
Once you've highlighted all the applications you wish to send to your selected bin, click the Update button. This will add the desired bin name to the Pending Bin column and deselect all of the applications, as highlighted in the screenshot below.

Step 4: Select the group of applications you wish to actually move to the bin noted in the Pending Bin column
Once again, select the applications you wish to move to their pending bin, Faculty/Committee Review Bin 1. Please note that you do not need to select all of applications with a pending bin. In the screenshot shown below, you can see that the applicant Ron Weasley has not been selected, even though a pending bin has been selected.

Step 5: Select Commit Pending and then type in COMMIT
Once you are sure you want to move the select applications to their pending bins, click the Commit Pending button (Step 1 in the screenshot below). This will open a small pop up, asking you to confirm your choice by typing in COMMIT and selecting the OK button (Step 2 in the screenshot below). Please note that you have to type COMMIT in all caps for the action to go through, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 6: Review your work
Once you have committed the applications to their pending bin, you will see that the applicants' current bin has changed, as shown for the applicants highlighted in the Current Bin column in the screenshot below. Any applicants that weren't selected will still have whichever Pending Bin was previously selected, as is the case with Ron Weasley's application in the Pending Bin column in the screenshot below.
