Engage - Instructor Checklist [UW-Madison]
This document includes a checklist of steps instructors will go through to order digital materials through the Engage program for use during the semester.
- Engage digital materials can be fully integrated into Canvas, ensuring first day access for students. Additionally, Engage materials cost a fraction of the publisher’s listed price.
- For a list of terminology to help understand Engage concepts, please review this document. Ordering can only occur during designated ordering periods.
- Ordering periods are only open to Instructors and Course Coordinators. You can review more information on roles in the Order Tool here.
Prior to the Order Period
- Review the benefits of using Engage and the accessibility information for the Order Tool and for the eReader.
- Ensure you’re positioned to receive notifications of upcoming Order Periods via email.
- Determine which eText or publisher digital learning tool (DLT) you would like to use - a list of available publishers can be found here and their DLTs here.
- Review information about the Order Tool and how to use it.
During the Order Period
- Place your order
- You can edit your order and add new sections to your order if needed, as long as the Order Period is still open; if the Order Period has closed, please contact the DoIT Help Desk as soon as possible - there’s no guarantee that your order can be edited, but the sooner it’s realized the better.
- Take some time to understand how Engage materials are billed to students and how students can opt-out of the materials.
- You do not need to enter textbook information into the Faculty Center, as that will be done for you - you can keep an eye on your course in Course Search & Enroll if you’d like!
After the Order Period
- Keep an eye out for your Canvas course shell to be created.
- Begin setting up your course for your eText or DLT - this may include working with a publisher to help configure your DLT.
- Craft your syllabus to include clear language on how your eText or DLT will be used in class, how it can be accessed, and information about billing.
