DesignPLUS Overview [UW-Madison]
This document describes DesignPLUS, which is a tool used to design Canvas courses.
What is DesignPLUS?
DesignPLUS is a time-saving tool that allows instructors and course designers to build and style high-quality Canvas courses that make learning engaging and accessible for all students.
The main feature of DesignPLUS is the Sidebar, which allows you to quickly create beautifully designed content in the following areas of Canvas:
- Content Pages
- Assignments
- Discussion Descriptions
- Classic Quizzes Descriptions
- Syllabus
- Announcements
DesignPLUS also features the Multi-Tool, which can help you set up modules fast, as well as the Upload/Embed Image Tool for uploading, cropping, resizing, and embedding images right inside your Canvas course.

Tool Functionality Details
Basic Functionality
- Click and place advanced Canvas tools like Module Lists, Accordion Collapsible Areas, and nearly 50 other tools!
- The ability to create content and use it in other areas of your Canvas course.
Advanced Functionality
- Designers can create themes in special Extended Courses to allow for those themes to be used in other courses.
- Use the Multi-Tool to rapidly build a course.
