This document explains who can access MyUW Madison, how to log in, and how to troubleshoot errors when accessing the portal.

Log Into MyUW Madison

Anyone with an active NetID can login to MyUW Madison at my.wisc.edu to access UW-Madison resources.

MyUW Madison Eligibility

Anyone with an active NetID can access MyUW. This includes applicants, students, staff, faculty, and other campus affiliates. Once logged in, you will be able to launch any apps or tiles that your NetID is eligible to access based on your role at the university.

Former Students

Former UW-Madison students who were last here fall 2010 or later will retain access to MyUW after graduating using their NetID.

Former students without a NetID can access student records and transcripts by contacting the Office of the Registrar or via My-Info login following Transcript - Requesting Transcripts Without a NetID .

Former Employees

Once a UW-Madison employee leaves the university, their NetID will remain eligible to access MyUW for two years after their appointment ends.

Eligibility for the MyUW portal after leaving UW-Madison does not guarantee eligibility to all apps available within MyUW.

Former employees will not retain access to HRS and may need to request statements from UW Shared Services contacts. For more details, see Former Employees - Accessing Earning, Leave, Tax, and Benefit Statements

Login Troubleshooting

If you are having problems logging into MyUW with your NetID, please see NetID - Login Problems. You may need to call the DoIT Help Desk to verify your identity and recover your NetID account before being able to log in.

In the rare situation that you are able to successfully log in using your NetID but receive a server error message, it's possible that the MyUW portal may be experiencing an outage. If the error page includes links to the resource you came to MyUW to find, you can proceed with the link provided. Outages will be posted at outages.doit.wisc.edu.

If no outages are posted but you are still unable to fully access the MyUW portal, please follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Verify that you are using a recommended browser: MyUW - Recommended Web Browsers.

  2. Clear your browser's Cache and Cookies, then re-attempt to access the portal.

  3. Ensure that cookies are enabled: Web Browsers - Cookies FAQ

  4. Connect to WiscVPN or any VPN service with a connection location set to the continental United States before attempting to login to MyUW. WiscVPN - How to Install and Connect
  5. Check that Java is installed and updated: Windows - Installing Java.

  6. If you are still unable to log in, please contact the DoIT Help Desk for further assistance. They may need to obtain details about your account and browser in order to begin addressing your issue.
