Admission Cycle: Preparation Processes for Programs
This document explains the 3 things programs should do and review in preparation for when a new application term opens for their program, whether that is in Fall, Spring, or Summer term.
Before the Application Opens
Review your Program Details page in Slate
The Program Details section in Slate provide an overview of program-specific information in Slate, including application deadlines, faculty permission lists, and number of recommendations required to apply to your program. You will want to review this every term that your program accepts applications, especially if your program has made any changes or updates to your page in the Graduate Guide.
- Use the information in this KB Document to Check Your Program's Application Details, Deadlines, and Faculty Lists
- Make sure the information in your Slate Program Details page is consistent with the information on your program's Graduate Guide page
- If you wish to make updates to your Program Details page in Slate, or discover any inconsistencies with the Graduate Guide and your Program Details page, please work with your program to confirm the correct information and then email AdmissionStaff@grad.wisc.edu with your edits.
Review your program's Supplemental Application in Slate
- Either create a fake application for your program in Slate or use this KB Document to Check Your Program's Supplemental Application in Slate in the Test Environment
- Make sure that your program's Supplemental App is consistent with any of the information your program provides on the Graduate Guide page
- If you wish to make updates to your Supplemental Application in Slate, please work with your program to confirm the correct information and then email AdmissionStaff@grad.wisc.edu with your edits. The Graduate School will make a call for updates annually around the same time as the Guide/Lumen update process.
After the Application Opens
As soon as the Graduate School Application is open and live for a new term, go through your program's Supplemental Application in a fake application
- Go to https://gradapply.wisc.edu/apply/ and create a fake account
- Start a new application and choose your program so you can fill out your program's Supplemental Application. Test it out to make sure it is working as you imagine it should. Once you are satisfied with your test, fill out the Supplemental Application and then exit the application.
- Go to https://gradapply.wisc.edu/manage/ and search for the fake application from the reviewer side of Slate. Make sure the Supplemental Question answers are showing up as you'd want them in the Application Reader Platform and showing up in your Homepage queries as you'd expect.
- If there are any issues with how the Supplemental Application is functioning in the live application, please email AdmissionStaff@grad.wisc.edu with your issues.
