Cisco VoIP - Jabber for Voice Only Overview and Sign in Information

An overview of the Jabber client for the Cisco VoIP system

The UW's implementation of Jabber for Cisco has voice only features. Webex Teams and Webex Meetings will be used for chat and conferencing features. To read more about the VoIP project status, please see the project website: https://voip.it.wisc.edu/

Only your department's IT support can install the Jabber client. The Jabber client is not available for personally-owned computers at this time due to 911 concerns. The Jabber client is only available for Windows and Mac operating systems. Linux users will need to use a Cisco telephone for voice service. Jabber only works for phone numbers assigned to a person.

You must be on either a UW campus network or using a UW VPN for Jabber to work.

After opening the Jabber client from your desktop, you will sign into the client using your campus NetID credentials.

The first time you sign in you will need to use your netid@wisc.edu in the username field to get the UW-Madison sign in page.
