Admission Cycle: Closing Processes in Slate

At the end of each term, the Graduate School needs to close out any lingering applications in Slate. Before the term starts, the Graduate School needs to clear out any submitted applications in your program's Review Workflow that have yet to be recommended, denied, or withdrawn. The Graduate School will also eventually clear out applications that have been recommended for admission, but were never admitted to the Graduate School because required documents (such as official transcripts or proof of English proficiency) were never received.

Closing out applications still in the program's Review Workflow at the end of the admissions cycle

Ten days prior to the beginning of a term, any remaining submitted applications in a program's Review Workflow (i.e., applicants with only a G00: Available for Recommendation code) will be closed out by applying a G90: Department Refusal code. These applicants will be removed from your program's Review Workflow, and the following deny letter will appear in the applicant's Status Page:

Hello [Preferred Name],

We regret to inform you that you have been denied admission to the [Academic Subplan Name] program.

Thank you for your interest in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate School. We wish you the best in your academic endeavors.

Sincerely,
The Graduate School

Closing out G02, G06, and G35 applications at the end of the admissions cycle

A couple of weeks after an entry term has begun, any remaining recommended applicants that haven't supplied the Graduate School required documentation for admission (applicants with unresolved G02: Missing AcadRecords/Transcript, G06: GS Follow-Up and/or G35: EnglishProficiencyTestRequired codes) will be closed out by applying a G54: Incomplete Application code. The following message will appear in the applicant's Status Page:

Hello [Preferred Name],

Your application to [Academic Subplan Name] has been withdrawn.

If this is an error, please reach out to the program to which you applied. For contact information, search for your program in the Graduate Guide.

We thank you for your interest in the Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Sincerely,
The Graduate School
