Fostering and Implementing Online Discussions: Strategies & Tips

Description

Theresa Pesavento (Learning Support Services) and Chad Shorter (DoIT Academic Technology) will present along with Todd Goddard (English) and Jonathan Klein (Learning Support Services) on various techniques, pedagogical goals, and web-based resources that instructors can use to incorporate online discussions into their teaching. Two case studies of courses that have successfully used online discussions will guide our session.

How to Connect to the Live Event Video Stream


Macintosh:
  1. Open Safari or Firefox

  3. Requires Quicktime Player and a high-speed internet connection. A wired high speed connection is strongly recommended.
Windows:
  1. Open Safari or Firefox (Internet Explored is not supported)
  2. Enter the following URL: Principles and Practices: Fostering Online Discussions
  3. Requires Quicktime Player and a high-speed internet connection. A wired campus connection is strongly recommended.
  4. If prompted by Windows to restore "MIME types" to Quicktime choose restore/yes, If prompted by Windows Firewall, allow the connection (May require password).
Note: A number of network and/or user-settings, including firewall, software, and password settings may interfere with Quicktime Streaming. If you cannot connect to the stream, you may request a recorded copy.
