L&S Majors, Certificates, and Degrees

The official lists of majors, certificates, and degrees offered in Letters & Science are available on-line:

  • The Guide provides a comprehensive list of undergraduate majors, special degree programs, certificates, and concentrations organized by the respective school or college that offers the academic program.
  • The Guide also provides a comprehensive list of graduate degrees, minors, and certificates. The information is organized alphabetically for all university programs.

Major

A student’s major is referred to as an academic plan in SIS. Some students may have more than one plan, and all are brought forward. How a student declares a major varies by school or college. Undecided students may show as BA 000 and BS 000.

Sub-plan is available as a sub-attribute for major in criteria and reports. These codes are generally used for major options and some honors programs.

Major - Future

When a student changes their major (i.e. at SOAR), the change is often future effective dated. This means that the change is set to occur on a date in the future and the student's new major will not become their current major until that date. Major - Future displays this future major and the effective date (the date it will change in SIS) of any student who is set to have their major changed. Once the effective date passes, the student's major will change to the new value and Major - Future will become blank.

Major Option

Major Option is a named option is a formally documented sub-major within an academic major program.
